Born in 1954 in North Carolina, Judi grew up in a Christian family and learned at an early age to love Christ. Graduating from Appalachian State University with a degree in Institutional Administration, she then worked several years before deciding to pursue fulltime Christian ministry and earning a Master’s degree in Christian Education from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi. There she got to know a young couple named Ken and Tammie Matlack. They were headed into church planting with the PCA and then on to the mission field in eastern Europe. Judi "went east" to serve as Director of C. Education at Neely’s Creek A.R. Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Fifteen years later, Judi's and the Matlacks' paths would cross again.

In 1997 God brought Judi to join the church planting team in Berlin. Ken Matlack and Jay Hering, a missionary with World Witness, had founded the Team out of a desire to reach Berlin for Christ. Judi has now served seven years on this much expanded team of dedicated men and women, where her chief duties have been working with children’s ministries and helping train others interested in youth and children’s work. Currently she is working with the Pankow Paulus-Gemeinde church plant.
